BEFORE YOU FLY - SETTING UP YOUR PLANE

Your first flight

Learn how to trim your plane during your first flight.

Maximising battery life

Videos coming - 14th Dec

Location:
  • Large open field, ideally with no one around near where you plan to fly

  • There is often less wind earlier in the morning, so morning can be the ideal time. The more wind, the harder the plane is to control so it's not ideal for beginners.

Rules:
  • Follow CASA rules

  • Do not fly if there is anyone else on the field, especially when you are learning

TIPS FOR YOUR FIRST FEW FLIGHTS
Controls:
  • Thumb and finger grip

  • Try to stay at a low altitude while learning, to keep crash damage to minimum

  • Be gentle with the controls, make small adjustments.

  • When turning, slowly move the stick all the way in the direction of your turn, and pull slightly back to keep the plane in the air

  • Start with about 30-35% throttle. Throw into the wind, keep it straight then cut the throttle to approx 20%

  • To avoid accidentally stalling your plane, if you want to go up, move stick back very gently

  • If you lose control, and you have the gyro engaged, take your hands off the controls and let the plane glide gently to the ground.

  • If you do have a big crash and the foam cracks or breaks, do not worry! The beauty of the Turbo Trainer is that the foam is easily repairable with hot glue. We recommend purchasing a hot glue gun for easy repairs. See our repairs page.

  • Watch our learn to fly videos below before you take your plane out for its first flight.

If you're new to remote control planes, we recommend watching our instructional videos before you take your plane out. While our planes are extremely tough and ultimately repairable, the more you know about handling your plane, the fewer big crashes you will have, and the longer your plane will last over the long term.

Additionally, the more you know about how to look after and fly your plane, the more rewarding your flying experiences will be.
